THE SEQUENCE OF MAKING A SEAM

Article Type: video
SIZE: 0:29 minutes

Every little weighted touch sets off a different function in the sequence of making a seam.
Industrial machines are designed to blindly stitch a straight seam, they have no complex functions.
But this sensor-based electric pedal activates sewing features that are controlled by
heel-to-toe micromovements and weight shifts, freeing the technician's hands.
Full press with the front of the foot for sewing forward,
Half a press for back stitch (reverse),
Pressure on the heel lifts the needle and presser-leg off the fabric,
activates a small knife that snips the thread.

The sequence of making a seam documents Hussein, the sewing technician,
in his workshop as he is producing items for the deviant shop.
We asked Hussein to manufacture a conversation,
exporting the knowledge and experience he has accumulated
hand-making-clothing-that-other-people-wear.
